David W. Matagiese, President/Founder of EcoVentures. You can read more about David and his background here.

Do I need to be staying at the hotel to participate in the programs?
No. EcoVentures Adventure Programs are open to all children whether they’re staying at the hotel or not.

What are the hours and days that EcoVentures is available?

What are the ages for the EcoVentures? Is it co-ed?
Our summer programs are designed for both boys and girls, ages 5-13.

Do I need to sign up for a whole week of programs?
No. EcoVentures Adventure Programs are available on a daily basis as well as a weekly basis (and multiple day registrations do not have to be taken consecutively). We welcome you to join us for as long or as little a stay as you'd like.

How do I sign my child up for EcoVentures?
It is highly recommended that you visit the program registration page to sign your child up before their first day of EcoVentures. Because of space restrictions, there is no guarantee that space will be available for walk-in registrations. Pre-registration also saves a good deal of time that it will take to complete the program forms.

I’d like to pre-register my children for EcoVentures. Where can I download the forms?
Sign-up for EcoVentures directly online by visiting the online registration page. You can also click here to download and print the registration forms.

What is the cost of the programs? Are there any discounts?
The cost for EcoVentures is $59 per child for single day sign-ups. We also offer a three-day package for $165 per child and weekly (any five days) sign-ups are $260 per child. Discounts and promotions are often provided through our social media platforms and email subscriptions. Is there a deposit required?
A deposit is not required. However, you must pay in full for your programs at the time of registration. Your child’s space will not be reserved unless payment has been received and processed.

What is the ratio of chaperones to children?
The average ratio of chaperones to children that EcoVentures typically utilizes is one adult instructor for every four children (1:4) and the ratio does not exceed 1:6. All of our instructors are First Aid/CPR certified and have a college degree (or are currently working towards a degree) in the natural sciences and/or education fields. Every instructor must submit to a thorough background check, including fingerprinting, before becoming an instructor.

What can the parents do while the kids are with EcoVentures?
Enjoy your day! Parents often utilize the hotel amenities such as the restaurants and bars/grills. Although parents may see us while we're on the beach, out of respect for the other program participants, we ask that parents do not hover around the group so they don't interfere with the activities. Through our partnerships with retail stores, services, and restaurants around town, parents may be eligible for discounts and promotional services at select locations. Check our partners page on the website for more information.

Is transportation provided to and from the EcoVentures programs?
No, each child must be dropped off and picked up by their parent/guardian at the hotel location. Parents must also sign the children in and out each day.

What is the procedure for drop off and pick up?
Each morning, a parent or guardian must bring the child to the registration table and sign the log sheet with the time of arrival and the parent’s/guardian’s initials. A child cannot be dropped off without a parent or guardian signing the log sheet. Each afternoon, a parent or guardian must sign the log sheet to pick up their child.  Only adults indicated on the Hold Harmless Agreement Form will be allowed to sign a child out.

What activities will the children participate in and what will they learn?
Children will be participating in activities at the hotel pool areas as well at the beach. Daily activities include nature walks, beach games, snorkeling, fossil hunting, boogie boarding, skimboarding, hands-on environmental education, and a variety of crafts. While participating in each activity, children will learn a variety of age-appropriate lessons about the marine environment including physical processes, biological facts, and how their daily lives are connected to the natural world. Don't forget we also offer surf lessons right here in Cape May!

What does my child need to wear?
Each day, children should wear comfortable, casual beach clothing that includes a bathing suit. Sandals are the recommended footwear. Children will need to bring a beach towel, water bottle, and sunscreen (and lunch if providing your own food).

Is lunch provided?
In an effort to keep costs down and provide more choices for parents, we no longer include lunch during our daily programs. However, parents may opt to purchase the lunch plan for their child at a rate of $4/day per child. The lunch includes two slices of cheese pizza. If you do not purchase the pizza lunch through EcoVentures, parents must provide a lunch and drink. A refillable water bottle is a great idea to keep your child hydrated throughout the day. You are also welcome to pack snacks. Please keep in mind that we do not have access to a refrigerator so please pack accordingly. **PARENTS MUST PROVIDE A LUNCH AND/OR SNACKS FOR THEIR CHILD EVERY DAY OF PROGRAMS**

What do the kids need to bring with them?
The only required items for each child are a lunch, beach towel, suntan lotion, water bottle, and bathing suit, however parents may also want to send their child with a hat, sunglasses and extra sunscreen. Children may bring a small backpack to hold all of their belongings. We highly recommend that you label all of your child’s belongings so they do not get lost in other campers’ bags. EcoVentures is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Do the children need to bring their own snorkel or beach equipment?
No, children do not need to bring any of their own equipment with them. EcoVentures will provide everything they need for each activity, however children should bring a beach towel, water bottle, sunscreen, and be wearing a bathing suit. EcoVentures is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

What should my child NOT bring?
Children are not permitted to bring portable video game devices, cell phones, money, or anything else that would be a distraction to the other participants. These items are also easily lost and misplaced and can be destroyed if they get wet. If you wish to send your child with a cell phone, it must be kept away in a bag and be used for absolute emergency purposes only. EcoVentures is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

What precautions do we practice to ensure safety?
The on-site program manager will have a binder on their person at all times that contains all participants' emergency contact information. We utilize at least one adult for a maximum of every six children (instructor to camper ratio is often 1:4 or better) and all instructors are First Aid and CPR certified. There are always instructors in the water with the children and beach activities always take place directly in front of the city lifeguards. Our instructors are all college graduates or current college students with a background in natural sciences. We have strict guidelines in place for ALL water activities that include a depth limit for all children.

I want my child to learn to surf in Cape May. Are the surf lessons part of the daycamp programs?
Surf lessons are completely separate programs from daily adventure programs at the hotel. Our Cape May surf lessons are held each morning BEFORE the hotel programs and are offered for kids, adults and families in group and private surf lessons. Please visit our surf lessons program page to learn more about our Cape May offerings.

Do I need to buy an EcoVentures t-shirt?
Buying a t-shirt is completely up to you. EcoVentures t-shirts are available for purchase every morning and cost $10/shirt — we think they make a great keepsake to remember your experience throughout the year! Our t-shirts come in plain white, but parents often purchase a shirt as an easy upgrade during the programs days where tie-dye activities are offered. This lets children customize their shirts with a cool tie-dye design of their own.

What if it rains?
Rainy days are our specialty! We're fortunate enough to work with top notch hotels who provide us with all of the amenities we need during incelement weather. We take shelter indoors and do hands-on crafts and experiments, play group games, and have snorkeling and swimming lessons at the indoor pool (Cape May location only). Because our programs are based out of oceanfront hotels and resorts, we are able to take immediate shelter indoors if the lifeguards call people off of the beaches. Instructors are trained to monitor weather conditions throughout the day and can quickly mobilize the group if needed. We have plenty of great hands-on activities for the children to perform indoors until the rain passes.

What if I need to cancel?
If your child is ill or cannot attend for any reason, please call and notify EcoVentures as soon as possible so that we can plan accordingly. A processing fee is applied to all refunds based on the time of cancellation (see terms and conditions here), but we know that parents are busy and things pop-up unexpectedly — give us a call and we'll do our best to accommodate you. Cancellations made within 24 hours will not be refunded. This includes no-shows.

Am I able to reschedule my program dates after I confirm my registration?
If we have availability and openings in the dates you would like to reschedule, then yes, you may reschedule but a 10% rescheduling fee applies. Promotional pricing and discounted program dates do not carry over. i.e., if your original date fell on a promotional day and your rescheduled date did not, the promotional pricing would no longer apply to the date change.

I am trying to take advantage of a current promotion but the registration form doesn't show the discounted prices. What gives?
From time-to-time we send our mailing list special promotions to use for program registrations (that's why it's such a good idea to join our mailing list! Join here). However, our online registration form will NOT automatically show the discounted rate in the CAMP REGISTRATION TOTAL box. Worry not. When you submit the registration form, payment is NOT automatically processed. Instead, an email is generated to our office and we apply any and all discounts to your total, send you a confirmation email with the correctly discounted amount, THEN we process payment.
